Which DVD is right for me?
I'm a beginner. Which videos should
I buy?
|
It depends on what you would like to learn:
Many beginner dancers (and some advanced ones too!) struggle understanding salsa rhythm and follow the time properly. Sooner or later these students will need to work on your salsa timing. This is one of the more difficult stages on the path of learning and in our opinion a crucial one. Once your timing is spot-on you will increase your enjoyment of dancing AND your popularity on the dance-floor! Our salsa products will help you find the rhythm in salsa music, understand salsa music and, most important, practise until you get it right. All our timing products are described here
If you have already learn a little bit of salsa and you need to practice and understand the different basic elements (the building block of any salsa turn pattern and move you may find From Salsa to Mambo (via Cha Cha Cha) useful
Together with more advanced turn patterns, some simple Cuban salsa moves are also contained in our Cuban Salsa for "Non Cubanos"
Many salsa beginners find it useful to learn the more simple but related Latin dance of Merengue which forms a great foundation for salsa. You can master the hip action and the arm work through merengue without having to be too concerned about footwork and difficult beat patterns. All merengue moves are easily converted to salsa by adding the salsa basic steps with the feet. For this reason our
Feelin'Merengue video is an ideal way to start. This DVD also progresses to more advanced moves so it is a DVD you can return to over and over again as your level increases. |
I've been dancing for a while and
want to increase my repertoire? Which is the video for me?
|
Have a look at out Turn Patterns DVDs. You won't believe how many turn patterns and in how may different styles you will find! On1, On2, NY style, LA style, Puerto Ricna Style and even Cuban |
I want to be able to dance with
anyone regardless of their style. Which video can help me with that?
|
Yes! That is our philosophy too. We say salsa dances need to be multilingual and be able to dance On1, On2 and even Cuban salsa. We have a few DVDs which help make the transition from one style to another having ourselves started with Cuban style, then converted to linear on1 and finally to NY style on2. We can help you to do the same so that you can travel the world dancing salsa and always find your place on the dance-floor!
Our
From Salsa to Mambo (via Cha Cha Cha) and Timing Exercises Vol 2 (2 DVDs) help understand the difference between On1 and On2 and hwo to perform all basic salsa elements in both styles.
Our DVD Advanced Salsa Figures in NY/LA and Cuban Style shows how a set of new moves can be interpreted in the 3 salsa styles so that you can learn these and then do the same with your existing repertoire.
Our DVDs
Salsa with the Stars also show how the same moves can be interpreted in many different styles as demonstrated by our international guest stars. You learn the new material and then you see the endless variations according to style and individual interpretation. |
I have a good repertoire of moves
but I want to get ideas on how to avoid looking like everyone else on
the dance floor. Help?
|
The only way to avoid looking
like everyone else in your home town on the dance floor is to develop your
own individual style. The best way to do this is to look at the experts,
get ideas from them and then put together what suits you. This can be difficult
to do when watching video clips of the stars as the moves are all so different
to start with. However, our DVD
Salsa with the Stars shows how a set
of 15 moves can be interpreted by the best dancers in salsa so that the
same material can look completely different. Why? Because they all add something
new from their personality, their individual style and their own repertoire
of tricks. Of the 43 stars in the video no two are alike!!
Based on aa similar idea, our Bachata Caribbean Style Vol 1 and Bachata Caribbean Style Vol 2 show different Bachata masters styling their dancing with their unique feel. |
What about converting from on1 to on2?
|
Our
From Salsa to Mambo (via Cha Cha Cha) and Timing Exercises Vol 2 (2 DVDs) help understand the difference between On1 and On2 and hwo to perform all basic salsa elements in both styles. |
I sometimes lose the beat when
