Josie NegliaAdvanced Salsa Combinations & TricksLevel: Intermediate/Advanced Style: LA Content: Shines, figures, tricks and dips. General Comment: As always with Josie, this video is very well produced, very well taught and contains good material. It is mostly for performers and/or 'flashy' dancers, less for social dancers. Some figures are very nice. Others are a bit 'over the top'. Some very nice shines (I really like Rogelio's ones). Both dancers are at their best, and they can be inspirational for both ladies and men. Rogelio's contribution to this video should not be underestimated. One of my favorite male style on video. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Good Hot SalsaLevel: Beginner/Intermediate Style: LA Content: Several moves grouped into routines. General Comment: This video is quite old now. It contains several standard figures in the LA repertoire. Josie teaches very well, and the production is good. The material is not astonishing, but valuable. A classic that would still help beginners and intermediate dancers. It is said that this constitutes the best seller salsa series in the market. If you are one of the her many female fans, be prepared to see a very different Josie from how she looks and dances today. All together it is good value for the salsa lover. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Good Lady StyleLevel: Beginner to Advanced Style: LA Content: Several exercises and tips for female styling. General Comment: Being a guy it is a bit hard to judge, but I believe it is a nice video. Simple but nicely covered foundentals about lady styling. My lady friends like this video. It should be kept in mind that Josie 'makes' what today's lady styling is supposed to be. Consequently, do not expect much hints on how to develop your own style, rather on how to look like the 'salsa queen'. Depending on your attitude towards salsa you may or may not like this. All together a valuable product. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Good Salsa Routines & MerengueLevel: Intermediate- Advanced Style: LA Content: Salsa and Merengue Figures General Comment: The salsa part of the video is organised in a similar manner to the 'Hot Salsa' series. Some nice figures, probably a bit out of date by now (the video is quite old), but well produced and well explained. The merengue part however is to be forgotten. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Good Salsa Line Dancing with Josie Neglia & Joe CassiniLevel: Beginners-Intermediate Style: LA Content: Salsa Line dancing steps General Comment: A short video, mostly featiring Joe Cassini, with Josie as contributor. Some line dancing routines. Some parts could be used an solo shines, but not many. Interesting only if you need to run line dance classes or for entertraiment. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Fair Advanced Salsa Combinations - Disk 8 (with Alvaro Coronel)Level: Beginners-Intermediate Style: LA Content: Turn Patterns General Comment: This DVD was produced a few years ago and consequently looks a bit dated today; but we should remember that much of what we see in the salsa clubs today originated, partly, from the DVD series which Jose pioneered long ago. This is particularly true for ladies styling, and here you can enjoy this in its original form. The DVD contains 11 turn patterns, of clear LA style. The turn patterns are first demonstrated to counting, then broken down for the man's part, then for the lady's part and finally danced to music from 2 different angles. The production is good, the dancing too and so is the explanation. A good DVD to learn a few 'classic' moves. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Good Advanced Salsa Combinations -Disk 9 (with Alvaro Coronel)Level: Beginners-Intermediate Style: LA Content: Turn Patterns and tricks General Comment: This DVD follows the same format as Advanced Salsa Combinations, Disk 8, but goes a considerable step up in difficulty level, so be prepared to be seriously challenged. After 5 classic turn patterns, Jose and Alvaro shows us 7 lifts, 3 jumps, and 5 drops. This is not for everyone, you need to be agile, fast and strong; some of this material could, in principle (!), be performed in a club, but most of it is strictly for the stage, at the very least because it needs a lot of space to execute safely. This material shows Jose at her best and explains why Alvaro was chosen to be her dancing partner. While his salsa dancing in the turn patterns is good but not outstanding, in the acrobatics he clearly shows his ability, precision and strength. Some of these acrobatics are 'classics', others are less common, but a reliable source of inspiration if you need to plan your next show. Reviewed by Fabio from SalsaIsGood - Good
